Greatest Skill of the 21st Century: Meditation

In a world where digital information continues to mushroom exponentially, we must not only discern what deserves our immediate attention, but also how to sustain our focus without interruption. Enter meditation. A few questions:

  • Should meditation be a lo-fi, offline practice only?
  • What is the value in meditating in 2-minute bytes (or less), if any?
  • How will social technologies either degrade communities of meditative practice or expand them?
  • Would you participate in a real-time, online meditation community? What would that space look like?
  • Who will emerge as the 21st century leaders in this space?
  • Should we start teaching meditation as a critical literacy?

A bunch of CEOs identified creativity as the most important leadership quality over the next five years. That’s great for the next five years, and like recycling, very important. I think we’ll look back on meditation as the greatest skill of this century, but likely longer. The great news is it can be learned.

Thoughts?
